PEARL MARGARET TAYLOR

(nee Unyi)

July 30, 1938 - April 1, 2026

Pearl died peacefully at Oakview Place Personal Care Home on Wednesday April 1, 2026, at the age of 87 after a steady health decline from dementia over the past few years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Karen (Jeff) Sadler, Maureen (Bob) Kennington; her grandchildren, Elizabeth and Ashleigh Sadler, Christopher (Renee), Taylor (Michael) and Carter Kennington; and her great-grandchildren Paige and Owen Kennington, along with many nieces and nephews.

Pearl was predeceased by her husband, John Taylor, her half-brother, Lawrence, and her parents, Christine and Andrew Unyi. Mom was well known in the community as she spent many years working for the Royal Bank. She started at age 14 and retired after 54 years of service. Pearl was a fierce supporter of her family, and was often first in line at any school events.

After John’s passing, Pearl moved from the family house to an apartment and from there she put her name in for the Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts Assisted Living Complex. She lived there for eight years and enjoyed many happy times. Our praises to the staff, management and residents there who kept her safe while she started to decline cognitively. Special thanks to Beatrice who was her hairdresser almost every Saturday. Beatrice assisted as navigator, guiding mom back to her suite on many occasions. When the move to 24-hour care became a necessity, she landed briefly at the Transitional Care Unit at Misericordia Health Centre and then at Oakview Place Personal Care Home.

Thanks to the staff of Oakview for their care and support of mom and a huge heartfelt thanks to Mom’s roommate, Arlene, who truly was her guardian angel in the last five - six months.

Pearl’s funeral will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 2400 Portage Avenue on Saturday April 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow immediately in the lower level and her interment will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens after the reception.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Transitional Care Unit at Misericordia Health Centre, 99 Cornish Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 1A2.

Seated at that big table, say hello to all our family and friends, until we meet again, we send our love to you Mom.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Sad to hear of cousin Pearl's passing, but what a wonderful person and a life well lived! Always positive, often in the face of difficult times. We go back 70 years or so as Pearl and her Mom Chrissy often visited us in Elmwood when we were kids and my Grandma MacRae was in town for a stay. Pearl was the last of my fathers generation, born later in life to my grandfather Jack MacRae's youngest sister Christine—so Pearl was really my dad's first cousin. Pearl was particularly close to my late sister Patricia who loved Pearl dearly. Condolences to her lovely children and grand-children. She will be missed. • Rest in Peace dear Pearl. Pearl was the last living member of her generation of the MacRae family who emigrated from Scotland and the keeper of her generation’s history. Me and my generation of the family shared many family stories with Pearl and she was especially close to my late sister Pat MacRae. Condolences to all her immediate family. - Posted by: Glenn MacRae (Cousin) on: Apr 12, 2026

  • Dearest Pearl my wonderful friend, Our friendship began in 1971 when I was started working with you at RBC. We had great times together especially after I came to live with you John, Karen and Maureen. After I moved to B.C. all of you came to visit and we made many more memories. Over the years we saw each other several times with more special memories. You were always upbeat and happy and a joy. You will be forever missed. - Posted by: Marilyn (Long time Friend) on: Apr 11, 2026

  • Dear Pearl. What a lovely lady. I really enjoyed our talks at Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts when I was there visiting my mom. One of the nicest people I have ever met. My condolences to Pearls family. Happy I got to know you. Lynn. - Posted by: Lynn (Daughter of Lois) on: Apr 11, 2026
